Generate fresh extended constructed response practice for any STAAR grade. Prompts use the exact task language from released 2024 to 2026 TEA items, passages are leveled to your students, and every task comes with the official rubric and an exemplar. Download it, or grade it in EnlightenAI.
Pick a grade and genre, choose a topic, and generate a complete practice package. Everything is constrained to what STAAR actually tests: the ECR format, the exact directions language from the 2025 released items, and the official scoring rubric.
Pick a curated topic or write your own. Argumentative topics are screened so both sides have citable evidence in the sources.
Directions follow the 2026 released Grade 4 informational item.
02 Why it works
Not a generic prompt generator.
Most prompt generators produce a topic sentence and call it test prep. This one is constrained by the actual STAAR blueprint at every step.
Exact test language
Prompt directions come from released TEA items, not paraphrases, matched to your grade and genre. Students walk into the test recognizing the format.
Genre follows the blueprint
Grade 4 gets informational and argumentative or opinion, because that is what STAAR tests there. You will never get a genre or task type Texas does not assess.
Balanced, citable sources
Passages are leveled by Lexile band and written to contain quotable evidence. Argumentative topics are screened so both sides are defensible from the text.
Scored the way Texas scores
Every task carries the official TEA ECR rubric, verbatim from our rubrics library. Grade responses by hand, or in EnlightenAI with per-criterion feedback.
03 By grade
STAAR writing practice for every tested grade.
Each grade page includes a reviewed example task for that grade and the generator preset to the right genres and reading level.
The prompt topics, passages, and exemplars are AI-generated and labeled as practice material. The task structure is not generated: prompt stems and the "Be sure to" directions follow released TEA items, and the scoring rubric is the official TEA rubric, verbatim, from our rubrics library.
Is this the official STAAR test?
No. These are practice tasks in the same format as the STAAR extended constructed response. For released tests, use the TEA released items linked on this page. Released items are excellent but limited in number; generated practice gives students fresh tasks in the same format all year.
What writing genres does STAAR test?
One extended constructed response per RLA administration, informational or argumentative (opinion at the younger grades), rotating by year. The generator only offers the genres tested at your grade, and we recommend practicing both.
Can I use my own reading or unit content?
Yes. Upload or paste a reading from your curriculum and the generator levels it for your grade and wraps it in the STAAR task format, so test practice can reinforce what you are already teaching instead of replacing it.
How do I grade the responses?
Every package includes the official TEA rubric for hand scoring. Or bring the task into EnlightenAI and grade a whole class against the same rubric with per-criterion feedback in minutes.
